Room cleaning is part of Homi's house cleaning service in Amman, covering bedrooms, living rooms, studies, hallways and any other dry room. You can book a set number of rooms rather than the whole property.

Dust, not grease or limescale

Kitchens are a grease problem and bathrooms are a mineral problem. Dry rooms are neither. Here the material is dust, a mix of fabric fibres, skin, hair, paper particles and fine outdoor grit that comes in through open windows and settles continuously on every horizontal edge in the room.

That changes the method entirely. There is nothing to dissolve and very little that needs soaking. What matters instead is capture and sequence: lifting dust into a cloth or a vacuum rather than pushing it into the air, and doing the room in an order that does not undo itself.

Why the order is always top-down

Most of a room's dust sits above eye level, where nobody looks: the tops of wardrobes, the door frames and door tops, picture rails and the tops of picture frames, light fittings and lampshades, ceiling fan blades and air-conditioning grilles. Fan blades and AC grilles are the two that make the most visible difference, because once they run they redistribute whatever is on them across the whole room.

All of that is done first, deliberately, because dust falls. Cleaning the desk and the bedside table before the shelf above them simply means dusting them twice. High surfaces, then mid-height furniture and surfaces, then low level, then the floor last. Any team working the other way round is working against gravity.

Skirting boards, behind and underneath

Skirting boards collect a grey line of dust along the top edge and are the clearest sign of whether a room has actually been done. They are wiped along their length, along with door frames, handles and light switches.

Behind and under furniture is done where the furniture can be moved safely by one or two people. Under-bed access depends entirely on the bed: a light frame on castors moves, a heavy divan with storage drawers or a fixed platform base does not, and it will not be dragged across a floor to prove a point. Where a bed cannot be moved, the team vacuums as far under as the tools reach and tells you rather than leaving you to assume.

Beds and bed linen

Beds are made as part of a room clean. Linen is changed if you leave fresh linen out on the bed. That is the signal, and it saves a cleaner opening cupboards to hunt for sheets. Used linen is left folded or placed where you ask, not washed, unless you have booked laundry as well.

The bed frame, headboard, slats and bedside tables are dusted, and the floor under and around the bed is vacuumed within the access described above.

Wardrobes and storage

Exteriors are included: wardrobe doors, handles, mirror fronts and the top of the unit, which is usually the dustiest surface in a bedroom. Insides are not part of a standard room clean. Cleaning inside a wardrobe means emptying it first, and clothes and personal storage are not something a cleaner should be handling on their own initiative. If you want interiors done, empty them beforehand and say so at booking so the hours allow for it.

Clear the surfaces before the team arrives

This is the single thing that most changes the result. Clear desks, dressing tables, bedside tables and floors of paperwork, jewellery, medication, chargers, clothes and children's things. A cleaner will not move, sort, stack or put away your belongings, partly because nobody knows where they go and partly because handling personal items is exactly how things get lost or broken and blamed on the wrong person.

A cleared surface gets cleaned. A cluttered surface gets worked around, and the difference is visible when you walk back in.

Screens, electronics, mirrors and glass

Televisions, monitors, laptops and tablets are dusted dry with a soft cloth. Nothing is sprayed onto a screen or near a vent, because liquid on a bezel runs down into the electronics, and many screen coatings are damaged by ordinary cleaning products. Remote controls, keyboards and switch plates are wiped rather than sprayed for the same reason.

Mirrors, glass table tops and internal glass doors are finished dry so no streaking is left. This is interior glass only. We do not clean the outside faces of windows, facades or anything at height.

Children's rooms get the same treatment with two additions: hard toy surfaces and toy storage boxes are wiped down, and small parts on the floor are collected into their box rather than vacuumed up. Soft toys are not washed as part of a room clean.

What a room clean does not cover

Soft furnishings are the main exclusion, and it is worth being direct about it. The mattress itself, sofas and armchairs, rugs and fitted carpets are not part of a room clean. They need extraction equipment and drying time, and they sit under furniture cleaning. Vacuuming a rug is included; cleaning a rug is not the same thing.

The floor finish itself, meaning polishing, sealing and machine work on marble, tile or wood, is covered on floor cleaning. A room clean vacuums and mops; it does not treat the floor. Rooms that have not been touched in a very long time are better booked as a deep clean.

How to book

Choose house cleaning and tell us how many rooms and which ones, plus anything specific such as ceiling fans or high shelving. Booking three bedrooms rather than a whole flat is completely normal when only part of the home needs attention. Work is booked by the hour with a minimum booking length. Book on the website or call us, whichever is easier. We operate 9 AM to 9 PM, seven days a week, and our mobile app is launching soon.

We cover all of Amman, including Abdoun, Dabouq, Khalda, Deir Ghbar, Shmeisani, Tla' Al Ali, Jubeiha and Sweileh.
